The Los Angeles Lakers went into the NBA summer hoping to keep their roster mostly intact, as Rob Pelinka and company believed they could put together the perfect pieces to play with superstar forwards LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
For the most part, the Lakers achieved their goal this summer, keeping every major free agent, including veteran guard D Angelo Russell.
Along with re-signing Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, and Russell, the Lakers also added Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince, Jaxson Hayes, and Cam Reddish.
With so many great players who might start for a variety of different teams in the league, it will be intriguing to see how Darvin Ham and company balance things out in order to put together a true NBA title challenger.
Russell, who is in risk of losing his starting place to Vincent, recently appeared on the Pat Bev Podcast to discuss his team and where he sees things going next season.
Russell believes that if everyone on the Lakers’ new-look squad buys in and is on the same page in terms of right play, right mentality, and right energy, the sky is the limit for this club during the 2023-24 NBA season.
With so many players capable of playing at a high level, the Lakers could make another title run, but it will likely be a war of egos and guys willing to sacrifice for the sake of the team.
That will undoubtedly be a test for this club in Los Angeles.
