There are several good quarterbacks in the NFL right now, both in the AFC and the NFC. These players range in age from youthful up-and-comers to seasoned veterans.
The quarterback position in the NFL in 2023 may have more talented players than ever, with some primetime talents ready to put on a show.
Through Good Morning Football, Fox Sports’ Peter Schrager recently compiled an intriguing list of the league’s most clutch quarterbacks, including some well-known players and perhaps a few surprises.

5 Josh Allen
4 Aaron Rodgers
3 Joe Burrow
2 Matthew Stafford
1 Patrick Mahomes pic.twitter.com/PX0yQ2yC32Good Morning Football (@gmfb) May 15, 2023
It is not surprising that the Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes is at the top of this list given that he recently won his second Super Bowl championship under head coach Andy Reid.
As the league’s best all-around quarterback and the one person a club would want to rely on when a game is on the line, Mahomes continues to raise the bar.
It’s a little surprise that Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who has only had one excellent season, is second on the list given how average and prone to injuries the remainder of his career has been.
The remaining players on the list, Joe Burrow, Aaron Rodgers, and Josh Allen, all make perfect sense.
The standout quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals has rapidly established himself as a player who can be relied upon in crunch time, while the rookie for the New York Jets has the résumé any quarterback would desire and the star quarterback for the Buffalo Bills keeps demonstrating why he belongs among the league’s finest.
