So far this offseason, theNew York Giantshave succeeded in keeping a few of their stars in the fold.
They gave quarterback Daniel Jones a very lucrative new contract, attached the franchise tag to Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley, and handed an extension to defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence.
Although Adoree Jackson may not be considered a star, he is one of New York s starting cornerbacks, and as he heads into the last year of his current contract, people are wondering if he will get an extension.
Although Jackson did well in some respects last season, Giants insider Jordan Raanan pointed out his lack of durability as a reason he may not get extended.
Yeah, don t think from a business perspective this would make much sense. Jackson s missed games each of the last four seasons, 29 games total over that span. May 24, 2023
In six NFL seasons, Jackson, who was a big star in college at the University of Southern California, has accumulated 48 passes defended, four fumble recoveries, and three interceptions.
But he hasn t appeared in more than 13 games in any of the last four seasons, and in 2020, he was limited to just three games because of a knee injury.
With all the money the Giants have committed to Jones and Lawrence, as well as a possible deal incoming for Barkley, Raanan feels it simply doesn t make financial sense for them to pay Jackson.
The Giants were one of the NFL s big surprises last season, as they started the year by winning six of their first seven games, then upset the 13-4 Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the playoffs.
They hope to build on that success next season, especially on the defensive side of the football, as they do not have a lot of weapons on offense.
