Truth be told, there was only so much Brad Stevens and the Celtics front office could do to improve the roster, but it was painfully evident that something needed to change.
They intend to build around Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, and with Malcolm Brogdon unlikely to be able to be traded due to his health issues, there was no choice but to pull the plug and part ways with their gritty defender.
The Grizzlies have now added a guy who pretty much embodies what their culture has been all about for years now.
Marcus Smart is a former Defensive Player of the Year and a guy that won t hesitate to get in everybody s face and hold each and every one of his teammates accountable, Ja Morant included.
He s the kind of guy who ll lead by example on and off the court, showing tough love but also putting his body on the line on every single possession.
